Matthew 3.13-17

Then Yeshua came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by Yohanan. Yohanan tried to dissuade Yeshua, saying, “I should be baptized by you, and yet you come to me!” But Yeshua replied, “Leave it this way for now. We must do this to completely fulfill God’s justice.” So Johanan reluctantly agreed. Immediately after Yeshua had been baptized and was coming up out of the water, the sky suddenly opened up and Yeshua saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove and hovering over him. With that, a voice from the heavens said, “This is my Own, my Beloved, on whom my favor rests.”

Almighty ever-living God,
who, when the Christ had been baptized in the River Jordan,
and as the Holy Spirit descended upon your Child,
you solemnly declared the Anointed One to be your
Beloved and Begotten,
grant that your children by adoption,
reborn of water and the Holy Spirit,
may always be well pleasing to you.

The Baptism of Yeshua

It did not seem kosher. Yohanan (John bar Zekharyah the Baptizer) thought that it would be the other way around ... he being baptized by Yeshua (Jesus). But, Yeshua made it clear: "We must do this to completely fulfill God’s justice.”

What just thing would happen in those waters of baptism? And, then, Yeshua arose from that water. The heavens break open; heaven embracing earth in a way that was a holy of holies. The sound of the waters becomes a voice, a word alighting upon him, the audio-visual being like a dove's descent.

Truth was spoken: “This is my Own, my Beloved, on whom my favor rests.”

When truth is spoken, justice is done!

No doubt about it. Yeshua (i.e., YHWH is salvation) is God's OWN ... God's BELOVED ... upon whom God's FAVOR rests.

Now, the very thing that makes this not only a just word, but an applicable one, is that the reality of Yeshua is our reality.

Echoed through the ages, from beginning to end and in everything that is between, is the voice of the Holy One, Holy and Mighty, Holy Immortal One speaking within our heart of hearts. To each and every God claims the person as God's OWN, God's BELOVED, upon whom God's FAVOR rests.

Imagine that! Each and every one of us is—in essence, nature, and substance—the OWNED of, BELOVED of, FAVORED one of God.

If only we knew it and trusted that truth about ourselves. If only we and saw all others likewise as being such. Perhaps justice would be natural. Like waters.

"Let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream". Amos 5:24

Eternal God,
you have given us your Only-Begotten, Beloved One,
to be as us and we as yours.
In baptism you revealed Your Anointed One to us.
Grant that we, who have been born of water and Spirit,
and made your children by adoption and grace,
may daily be reconciled, redeemed, and sustained
in your mercy, compassion, and love.
Blessed are you,
and blessed is your Kin-Dom,
