BLESSINGS AND WOES

Holy One, Holy and Almighty, Holy Immortal God, we live and move and have our being in your blessing.
Nothing that we are or have or shall become is without your touch of love.
Help, therefore, as we live into the way of Jesus to do that which is your will, and to avoid anything that is solely of our own wishes and desires.
For we long to be a people of just peace, our lives being an instrument of your blessings to others, to the end that all will know and share the spendthrift gift of life that is in perfect wholeness and complete wellness.
May the riches of your grace be in our relationships that your Kin-Dom and will be done here on earth as it is in heaven.
May our sorrows be shared for we are all broken and the presence of others in compassion help us to find comfort.
May the politics of our living be in humble regard, always guarding and protecting the dignity of others.
May our choices and the paths we walk always express the truth of your unconditional love and acceptance.
May we make peace, not in the cessation of violence, but in the regard for life and the shared common good that is equality embraced by equity.
May all persecution cease, especially the hardship and suffering that is a part of what we believe and understand to be your will.
May all the challenges we face for being your people be overcome in the realization and affirmation that you are the God of all people, no one left outside, no one left behind. For your love is all encompassing defying every notion or act of bias and prejudice.
May humankind find our place in your creation by caring for your earth, caring for every creature great and small, and caring for all people without exception. For our stewardship of faithful obedience is known in the mercy upon which we extend to all, and the justice that knows no harm.
May we live each moment above and beyond all that limits us.
May racism, xenophobia, sexism, systems of economic status, disrespect of the LGBTQX person, and all that takes away from the fullness of life abundant all be but a memory of what was but is no more.
For you are most to be praised and most to be glorified.
Blessed is God and blessed is God’s Kin-Dom, forever.

“But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation.
“Woe to you who are full now, for you will be hungry.
“Woe to you who are laughing now, for you will mourn and weep.
“Woe to you when all speak well of you, for that is what their ancestors did to the false prophets.
“But I say to you that listen, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.

You who hunger now are blessed, for you’ll be filled.

when they scorn and insult you and spurn your name as evil

But woe to you rich, for you are now receiving your comfort in full.
Woe to you who are full, for you’ll go hungry.
Woe to you who laugh now, for you’ll weep in your grief.
Woe to you when all speak well of you,
for their ancestors treated the false prophets in the same way.
“To you who hear me, I say: love your enemies. Do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who mistreat you.
(Priests for Equality. The Inclusive Bible. Sheed & Ward.)
