Sing to YHWH, you who love God!
Praise God’s holy Name!
YHWH’s anger is fleeting,
but God’s favor endures forever.
There may be tears during the night,
but joy comes in the morning.
(from Psalm 30)

Sing out your joy to YHWH, you who love justice—
praise is fitting for loyal hearts.
Praise YHWH with the harp,
and play music with a ten-stringed lyre!
Sing God a new song,
play with all your skill, and with shouts of joy!
For the word of YHWH is true
and everything God does can be trusted.
YHWH loves justice and right
and fills the earth with love.
(from Psalm 33)

I am weary with my moaning;
every night I flood my bed with tears;
I drench my couch with my weeping.
(from Psalm 6)

Opening Words

May the God of hope give you the fullness of peace,
and may the God of life be always with you.
Grace to you and peace from God our Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer.
May the God of all mercies, the God of all consolation, be with you.

Opening Prayer

O God of peace, You have taught us that in returning and rest, we shall be
saved, in quietness and confidence shall be our strength.
By the might of your Spirit lift us, we pray,
to your presence, where we may be still and know that you are God.
For this we ask in your most beloved and blessed Name.

Psalms For The Dark Night Of The Soul

YHWH, you are my light, my salvation—
whom will I fear?
You are the fortress of my life—
of whom will I be afraid?
One thing I ask of you, YHWH,
one thing I seek:
that I may dwell in your house all the days of my life,
to gaze on your beauty
and to meditate in your Temple.
You will keep me safe in your shelter
when trouble arises,
you will hide me
under the cover of your Tabernacle—
you’ll set me on a rock,
high and out of reach.
Then I’ll be able to hold my head up,
I will offer in your Tabernacle
sacrifices of great joy—
I’ll sing and make music to you, YHWH!
Hear me when I call, YHWH!
Have mercy on me and answer me!
O God of my salvation,
for you are my only help.
Even so I have confidence
that I’ll see the goodness of YHWH
in the land of the living!
Wait for God—stand tall
and let your heart take courage!
Yes, wait for YHWH!
Psalm 27 (selected verses)

You are gracious, YHWH, and just;
YHWH is compassionate.
You protect those without guile;
when I was brought low, you saved me.
Be at rest once again, my soul,
for YHWH has been good to you.
You have rescued my soul from Death,
my eyes from Tears,
and my feet from Banishment.
I walk before you, YHWH,
in the land of the living.
I believed even when I said,
“I am completely crushed,”
and in despair said,
“No one can be trusted.”
How can I repay you, YHWH,
for all your goodness to me?
I raise the cup of deliverance,
and call on the Name of YHWH.
I will fulfill my vows to you
in the presence of all your people.
The death of your faithful
is precious in your sight.
YHWH, I am your faithful one—
I am faithful to you alone,
the child of your fidelity.
You have freed me from my chains.
 I will offer you the sacrifice of praise,
and call on the Name of YHWH.
I will fulfill my vows to you
in the presence of all your people,
in the courts of the house of YHWH,
in the midst of Jerusalem.
Psalm 116 (selected verses)

Let the light of your face, YHWH, shine on us!
You put joy in my heart—
a joy greater than being full
of bread and new wine.
n peace I’ll lie down;
in peace I will sleep:
for you alone, YHWH,
keep me perfectly safe.
Psalm 4 (selected verses)

You who dwell in the shelter of the Most High
and pass the night in the shadow of Shaddai,
say: “YHWH, my refuge and my mountain fortress,
my God in whom I trust!”
For YHWH says:
“I will rescue you from the snare,
and shield you from poisoned arrows.
I will cover you with my pinions;
under my wings you will take refuge;
my faithfulness will shield you.
You have no need to fear the prowlers of the night
or the arrow that flies by day,
the plague that lurks in the shadows
or the scourge that stalks at noon.
Though a thousand fall at your left side
and ten thousand at your right,
it will never come near you.
You will see it pass you by,
and witness the punishment of the corrupt
with your own eyes.
Because you have made me your refuge
and have me as your stronghold,
no evil will befall you,
and no disaster will come near your tent.
For I will command my angels
to guard you wherever you go.
They’ll carry you in their hands
so you don’t hurt your foot on a stone.
Because you love me, I will deliver you;
I will rescue you because you acknowledge my Name.
You will call upon me, and I will answer you;
I will be with you in trouble;
I will deliver you and honor you.
I will satisfy you with a long life
and show you my salvation.”
Psalm 91 (selected verses)

Prayer For Submission

Almighty and eternal God, so draw our hearts to you,
so guide our minds,
so fill our imaginations,
so control our wills,
that we may be wholly yours,
utterly dedicated to you.
And then use us, we pray,
as you will,
and always to your glory and the welfare of your people.
For this we ask in your most beloved and blessed Name.

A Celtic Prayer

I weave a silence onto my lips
I weave a silence into my mind
I weave a silence within my heart
I close my ears to distractions
I close my eyes to attractions
I close my heart to temptation.
Calm me, O God, as you stilled the storm,
Still me, O God, keep me from harm.
Let all tumult within me cease;
Enfold me, O God, in your peace.

The Prayer Of Jesus (Expanded Language For Inclusion)

Heavenly Father, Heavenly Mother,
holy and blessed is your true name.
We pray for your reign of peace to come.
We pray that your good will be done.
Let heaven and earth become one.
Give us this day the bread we need.
Give it to those who have none.
Let forgiveness flow like a river between us,
from each one to each one to each one.
Lead us to holy innocence beyond the evil of our days.
Come swiftly Mother, Father come,
for yours is the power, and the mercy, and the glory.
Forever your name is all in one. Amen.

Closing Words

God is your keeper;
God is your shade at your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day,
nor the moon by night.
God will keep you from all evil;
God will keep your life.
(from Psalm 121)

Blessed is God,
and blessed is God's Kin-dom,
now and forevermore.
