Psalm 8

O GOD, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
Out of the mouths of babes and infants
you have founded a defense because of your foes,
to silence the enemy and the avenger.
When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars that you have established;
what are human beings that you are mindful of them,
mortals that you care for them?
Yet you have made them a little lower than GOD,
and crowned them with glory and honor.
You have given them dominion over the works of your hands;
you have put all things under their feet,
all sheep and oxen,
and also the beasts of the field,
the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea,
whatever passes along the paths of the seas.
O GOD, our Sovereign One,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory above the heavens.

Psalm 23

GOD is my shepherd, I shall not want.
GOD makes me lie down in green pastures;
leads me beside still waters;
and restores my soul.
GOD leads me in right paths
for GOD’s name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the darkest valley,
I fear no evil;
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff—
they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of GOD
my whole life long.

Psalm 24

The earth is GOD’s and all that is in it,
the world, and those who live in it;
for he has founded it on the seas,
and established it on the rivers.
Who shall ascend the hill of GOD?
And who shall stand in GOD’s holy place?
Those who have clean hands and pure hearts,
who do not lift up their souls to what is false,
and do not swear deceitfully.
They will receive blessing from GOD,
and vindication from GOD of their salvation.
Such is the company of those who seek the Holy One,
who seek the face of GOD of Jacob. Selah
Lift up your heads, O gates!
and be lifted up, O ancient doors!
that the Sovereign One of glory may come in.
Who is the Sovereign One of glory?
GOD, strong and mighty,
GOD, mighty in battle.
Lift up your heads, O gates!
and be lifted up, O ancient doors!
that the Sovereign One of glory may come in.
Who is this Sovereign One of glory?
GOD of hosts,
is the Sovereign One of glory. Selah

Psalm 27

GOD is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear?
GOD is the stronghold of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid?
When evildoers assail me
to devour my flesh—
my adversaries and foes—
they shall stumble and fall.
Though an army encamp against me,
my heart shall not fear;
though war rise up against me,
yet I will be confident.
One thing I asked of GOD,
that will I seek after:
to live in the house of GOD
all the days of my life,
to behold the beauty of GOD,
and to inquire in GOD’s temple.
For the Holy One will hide me in GOD’s shelter
in the day of trouble;
the Holy One will conceal me under the cover of GOD’s tent;
the Holy One will set me high on a rock.
Now my head is lifted up
above my enemies all around me,
and I will offer in GOD’s tent
sacrifices with shouts of joy;
I will sing and make melody to GOD.
Hear, O GOD, when I cry aloud,
be gracious to me and answer me!
“Come,” my heart says, “seek GOD’s face!”
Your face, O GOD, do I seek.
Do not hide your face from me.
Do not turn your servant away in anger,
you who have been my help.
Do not cast me off, do not forsake me,
O GOD of my salvation!
If my father and mother forsake me,
GOD will take me up.
Teach me your way, O GOD,
and lead me on a level path
because of my enemies.
Do not give me up to the will of my adversaries,
for false witnesses have risen against me,
and they are breathing out violence.
I believe that I shall see the goodness of GOD
in the land of the living.
Wait for GOD;
be strong, and let your heart take courage;
wait for GOD!

Psalm 30

I will extol you, O GOD, for you have drawn me up,
and did not let my foes rejoice over me.
O GOD my GOD, I cried to you for help,
and you have healed me.
O GOD, you brought up my soul from Sheol,
restored me to life from among those gone down to the Pit.
Sing praises to GOD, O you GOD’s faithful ones,
and give thanks to GOD’s holy name.
For GOD’s anger is but for a moment;
GOD’s favor is for a lifetime.
Weeping may linger for the night,
but joy comes with the morning.
As for me, I said in my prosperity,
“I shall never be moved.”
By your favor, O GOD,
you had established me as a strong mountain;
you hid your face;
I was dismayed.
To you, O GOD, I cried,
and to GOD I made supplication:
“What profit is there in my death,
if I go down to the Pit?
Will the dust praise you?
Will it tell of your faithfulness?
Hear, O GOD, and be gracious to me!
O GOD, be my helper!”
You have turned my mourning into dancing;
you have taken off my sackcloth
and clothed me with joy,
so that my soul may praise you and not be silent.
O GOD my GOD, I will give thanks to you forever.

Psalm 42

As a deer longs for flowing streams,
so my soul longs for you, O GOD.
My soul thirsts for GOD,
for the living GOD.
When shall I come and behold
the face of GOD?
My tears have been my food
day and night,
while people say to me continually,
“Where is your GOD?”
These things I remember,
as I pour out my soul:
how I went with the throng,
and led them in procession to the house of GOD,
with glad shouts and songs of thanksgiving,
a multitude keeping festival.
Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in GOD; for I shall again praise the Holy One,
my help and my GOD.
My soul is cast down within me;
therefore I remember you
from the land of Jordan and of Hermon,
from Mount Mizar.
Deep calls to deep
at the thunder of your cataracts;
all your waves and your billows
have gone over me.
By day GOD commands GOD’s steadfast love,
and at night GOD’s song is with me,
a prayer to GOD of my life.
I say to GOD, my rock,
“Why have you forgotten me?
Why must I walk about mournfully
because the enemy oppresses me?”
As with a deadly wound in my body,
my adversaries taunt me,
while they say to me continually,
“Where is your GOD?”
Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in GOD; for I shall again praise the Holy One,
my help and my GOD.

Psalm 46

GOD is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change,
though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea;
though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble with its tumult. Selah
There is a river whose streams make glad the city of GOD,
the holy habitation of the Most High.
GOD is in the midst of the city; it shall not be moved;
GOD will help it when the morning dawns.
The nations are in an uproar, the empires totter;
he utters GOD’s voice, the earth melts.
GOD of hosts is with us;
GOD of Jacob is our refuge. Selah
Come, behold the works of GOD;
see what desolations he has brought on the earth.
He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
he breaks the bow, and shatters the spear;
he burns the shields with fire.
“Be still, and know that I am GOD!
I am exalted among the nations,
I am exalted in the earth.”
The GOD of hosts is with us;
GOD of Jacob is our refuge. Selah

Psalm 51

Have mercy on me, O GOD,
according to your steadfast love;
according to your abundant mercy
blot out my transgressions.
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
and cleanse me from my sin.
For I know my transgressions,
and my sin is ever before me.
Against you, you alone, have I sinned,
and done what is evil in your sight,
so that you are justified in your sentence
and blameless when you pass judgment.
Indeed, I was born guilty,
a sinner when my mother conceived me.
You desire truth in the inward being;
therefore teach me wisdom in my secret heart.
Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Let me hear joy and gladness;
let the bones that you have crushed rejoice.
Hide your face from my sins,
and blot out all my iniquities.
Create in me a clean heart, O GOD,
and put a new and right spirit within me.
Do not cast me away from your presence,
and do not take your holy spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
and sustain in me a willing spirit.
Then I will teach transgressors your ways,
and sinners will return to you.
Deliver me from bloodshed, O GOD,
O GOD of my salvation,
and my tongue will sing aloud of your deliverance.
O GOD, open my lips,
and my mouth will declare your praise.
For you have no delight in sacrifice;
if I were to give a burnt offering, you would not be pleased.
The sacrifice acceptable to GOD is a broken spirit;
a broken and contrite heart, O GOD, you will not despise.
Do good to Zion in your good pleasure;
rebuild the walls of Jerusalem,
then you will delight in right sacrifices,
in burnt offerings and whole burnt offerings;
then bulls will be offered on your altar.

Psalm 62

For GOD alone my soul waits in silence;
from the Holy One comes my salvation.
He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall never be shaken.
How long will you assail a person,
will you batter your victim, all of you,
as you would a leaning wall, a tottering fence?
Their only plan is to bring down a person of prominence.
They take pleasure in falsehood;
they bless with their mouths,
but inwardly they curse. Selah
For GOD alone my soul waits in silence,
for my hope is from the Holy One.
He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall not be shaken.
On GOD rests my deliverance and my honor;
my mighty rock, my refuge is in GOD.
Trust in the Holy One at all times, O people;
pour out your heart before the Holy One;
GOD is a refuge for us. Selah
Those of low estate are but a breath,
those of high estate are a delusion;
in the balances they go up;
they are together lighter than a breath.
Put no confidence in extortion,
and set no vain hopes on robbery;
if riches increase, do not set your heart on them.
Once GOD has spoken;
twice have I heard this:
that power belongs to GOD,
and steadfast love belongs to you, O GOD.
For you repay to all
according to their work.

Psalm 93

The GOD is Sovereign One, he is robed in majesty;
GOD is robed, he is girded with strength.
He has established the world; it shall never be moved;
your throne is established from of old;
you are from everlasting.
The floods have lifted up, O GOD,
the floods have lifted up their voice;
the floods lift up their roaring.
More majestic than the thunders of mighty waters,
more majestic than the waves of the sea,
majestic on high is GOD!
Your decrees are very sure;
holiness befits your house,
O GOD, forevermore.

Psalm 95

O come, let us sing to GOD;
let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!
Let us come into GOD’s presence with thanksgiving;
let us make a joyful noise to the Holy One with songs of praise!
For GOD is a great GOD,
and a great Sovereign One above all GODs.
In GOD’s hand are the depths of the earth;
the heights of the mountains are GOD’s also.
The sea is his, for he made it,
and the dry land, which GOD’s hands have formed.
O come, let us worship and bow down,
let us kneel before GOD, our Maker!
For he is our GOD,
and we are the people of GOD’s pasture,
and the sheep of GOD’s hand.
O that today you would listen to GOD’s voice!
Do not harden your hearts, as at Meribah,
as on the day at Massah in the wilderness,
when your ancestors tested me,
and put me to the proof, though they had seen my work.
For forty years I loathed that generation
and said, “They are a people whose hearts go astray,
and they do not regard my ways.”
Therefore in my anger I swore,
“They shall not enter my rest.”

Psalm 96

O sing to GOD a new song;
sing to GOD, all the earth.
Sing to GOD, bless GOD’s name;
tell of GOD’s salvation from day to day.
Declare GOD’s glory among the nations,
GOD’s marvelous works among all the peoples.
For great is GOD, and greatly to be praised;
he is to be revered above all GODs.
For all GODs of the peoples are idols,
but GOD made the heavens.
Honor and majesty are before the Holy One;
strength and beauty are in GOD’s sanctuary.
Ascribe to GOD, O families of the peoples,
ascribe to GOD glory and strength.
Ascribe to GOD the glory due GOD’s name;
bring an offering, and come into GOD’s courts.
Worship GOD in holy splendor;
tremble before the Holy One, all the earth.
Say among the nations, “The GOD is Sovereign One!
The world is firmly established; it shall never be moved.
He will judge the peoples with equity.”
Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice;
let the sea roar, and all that fills it;
let the field exult, and everything in it.
Then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy
before GOD; for he is coming,
for he is coming to judge the earth.
He will judge the world with righteousness,
and the peoples with GOD’s truth.

Psalm 98

O sing to GOD a new song,
for he has done marvelous things.
His right hand and GOD’s holy arm
have gotten the Holy One victory.
the Holy One has made known GOD’s victory;
he has revealed GOD’s vindication in the sight of the nations.
He has remembered GOD’s steadfast love and faithfulness
to the house of Israel.
All the ends of the earth have seen
the victory of our GOD.
Make a joyful noise to GOD, all the earth;
break forth into joyous song and sing praises.
Sing praises to GOD with the lyre,
with the lyre and the sound of melody.
With trumpets and the sound of the horn
make a joyful noise before the Sovereign One, GOD.
Let the sea roar, and all that fills it;
the world and those who live in it.
Let the floods clap their hands;
let the hills sing together for joy
at the presence of GOD, for he is coming
to judge the earth.
He will judge the world with righteousness,
and the peoples with equity.

Psalm 100

Make a joyful noise to GOD, all the earth.
Worship GOD with gladness;
come into GOD’s presence with singing.
Know that GOD is GOD.
It is he that made us, and we are his;
we are GOD’s people, and the sheep of GOD’s pasture.
Enter GOD’s gates with thanksgiving,
and GOD’s courts with praise.
Give thanks to the Holy One, bless GOD’s name.
For GOD is good;
GOD’s steadfast love endures forever,
and GOD’s faithfulness to all generations.

Psalm 103

Bless GOD, O my soul,
and all that is within me,
bless GOD’s holy name.
Bless GOD, O my soul,
and do not forget all GOD’s benefits—
who forgives all your iniquity,
who heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the Pit,
who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
who satisfies you with good as long as you live
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
GOD works vindication
and justice for all who are oppressed.
He made known GOD’s ways to Moses,
GOD’s acts to the people of Israel.
GOD is merciful and gracious,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
He will not always accuse,
nor will he keep GOD’s anger forever.
He does not deal with us according to our sins,
nor repay us according to our iniquities.
For as the heavens are high above the earth,
so great is GOD’s steadfast love toward those who fear the Holy One;
as far as the east is from the west,
so far he removes our transgressions from us.
As a father has compassion for GOD’s children,
so GOD has compassion for those who fear the Holy One.
For GOD knows how we were made;
remembering that we are dust.
As for mortals, their days are like grass;
they flourish like a flower of the field;
for the wind passes over it, and it is gone,
and its place knows it no more.
But the steadfast love of GOD is from everlasting to everlasting
on those who fear the Holy One,
and GOD’s righteousness to children’s children,
to those who keep GOD’s covenant
and remember to do GOD’s commandments.
GOD has established GOD’s throne in the heavens,
and GOD’s Sovereign One rules over all.
Bless GOD, O you GOD’s angels,
you mighty ones who do GOD’s bidding,
obedient to GOD’s spoken word.
Bless GOD, all GOD’s hosts,
GOD’s ministers that do GOD’s will.
Bless GOD, all GOD’s works,
in all places of GOD’s dominion.
Bless GOD, O my soul.

Psalm 121

I lift up my eyes to the hills—
from where will my help come?
My help comes from GOD,
who made heaven and earth.
The Holy One will not let your foot be moved;
he who keeps you will not slumber.
He who keeps Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
GOD is your keeper;
GOD is your shade at your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day,
nor the moon by night.
GOD will keep you from all evil;
he will keep your life.
GOD will keep
your going out and your coming in
from this time on and forevermore.

Psalm 122

I was glad when they said to me,
“Let us go to the house of GOD!”
Our feet are standing
within your gates, O Jerusalem.
Jerusalem—built as a city
that is bound firmly together.
To it the tribes go up,
the tribes of GOD,
as was decreed for Israel,
to give thanks to the name of GOD.
For there the thrones for judgment were set up,
the thrones of the house of David.
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
“May they prosper who love you.
Peace be within your walls,
and security within your towers.”
For the sake of my relatives and friends
I will say, “Peace be within you.”
For the sake of the house of GOD our GOD,
I will seek your good.

Psalm 124

> If it had not been GOD who was on our side
—let Israel now say—
if it had not been GOD who was on our side,
when our enemies attacked us,
then they would have swallowed us up alive,
when their anger was kindled against us;
then the flood would have swept us away,
the torrent would have gone over us;
then over us would have gone
the raging waters.
Blessed be GOD,
who has not given us
as prey to their teeth.
We have escaped like a bird
from the snare of the fowlers;
the snare is broken,
and we have escaped.
Our help is in the name of GOD,
who made heaven and earth.

Psalm 126

When GOD restored the fortunes of Zion,
we were like those who dream.
Then our mouth was filled with laughter,
and our tongue with shouts of joy;
then it was said among the nations,
“The GOD has done great things for them.”
GOD has done great things for us,
and we rejoiced.
Restore our fortunes, O GOD,
like the watercourses in the Negeb.
May those who sow in tears
reap with shouts of joy.
Those who go out weeping,
bearing the seed for sowing,
shall come home with shouts of joy,
carrying their sheaves.

Psalm 130

Out of the depths I cry to you, O GOD.
GOD, hear my voice!
Let your ears be attentive
to the voice of my supplications!
If you, O GOD, should mark iniquities,
GOD, who could stand?
But there is forgiveness with you,
so that you may be revered.
I wait for GOD, my soul waits,
and in GOD’s word I hope;
my soul waits for GOD
more than those who watch for the morning,
more than those who watch for the morning.
O Israel, hope in GOD!
For with GOD there is steadfast love,
and with the Holy One is great power to redeem.
It is he who will redeem Israel
from all its iniquities.

Psalm 146

Praise GOD!
Praise GOD, O my soul!
I will praise GOD as long as I live;
I will sing praises to my GOD all my life long.
Do not put your trust in princes,
in mortals, in whom there is no help.
When their breath departs, they return to the earth;
on that very day their plans perish.
Happy are those whose help is GOD of Jacob,
whose hope is in GOD their GOD,
who made heaven and earth,
the sea, and all that is in them;
who keeps faith forever;
who executes justice for the oppressed;
who gives food to the hungry.
The GOD sets the prisoners free;
GOD opens the eyes of the blind.
The GOD lifts up those who are bowed down;
GOD loves the righteous.
GOD watches over the strangers;
he upholds the orphan and the widow,
but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin.
GOD will reign forever,
your GOD, O Zion, for all generations.
Praise GOD!
