A BEAD AND A PRAYER—THE CIRCLE OF LIFE IN CHRIST

PRAYERS

THE CROSS

O God, make haste to deliver me.

Make haste, O God, to help me.

THE INVITATORY BEAD

Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy Name. Amen.

THE TRINITY BEADS

Holy God, Holy and Mighty, Holy Immortal: Have mercy on me.

Holy God, Holy and Mighty, Holy Immortal: Have mercy on me.

Holy God, Holy and Mighty, Holy Immortal: Have mercy on me.

(OR)

Consecrated One of God, have mercy.

Anointed One of God, have mercy.

Beloved One of God, have mercy.

(OR)

Servant of God, who heals our brokenness, have mercy on me.

Servant of God, who heals our brokenness, have mercy on me.

Servant of God, who heals our brokenness, grant us your peace.

THE CRUCIFORM BEAD

Christ, though in the image of God,

didn’t deem equality with God

something to be clung to.

Instead became completely empty

and took on the image of humankind:

born into human existence,

found in the likeness of a human being.

Jesus was just, merciful, and humble—

obediently accepting death,

even death on a cross!

Because of this, God highly exalted the Christ

and gave the Anointed the name above every other name,

so that at the name of Jesus every knee must bend

in the heavens, on the earth and under the earth,

and every tongue proclaim to the glory of God:

Jesus Christ reigns supreme!

THE WEEK BEADS 1

Loving God, make me an instrument of your peace.

Where there is hatred let me sow love;

where there is injury, pardon;

where there is doubt, faith;

where there is despair, hope;

where there is darkness, light;

where there is sadness, joy.

THE CRUCIFORM BEAD

One of the religious scholars came up and put a question to him: “Which is the foremost of all the commandments?” Jesus replied, “This is the foremost: ‘Hear, O Israel, God, our God, is one. You must love the Most High God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You must love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” The scholar said to Jesus, “Well spoken, Teacher! What you have said is true: the Most High is one and there is no other. To love God with all your heart, with all your understanding and strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself—this is far more important than any burnt offering or sacrifice.”

THE WEEK BEADS 2

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek

to be consoled as to console;

to be understood as to understand;

to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;

it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;

and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

THE CRUCIFORM BEAD

“At the appointed time the Promised One will come in glory, escorted by all the angels of heaven, and will sit upon the royal throne, with all the nations assembled below. Then the Promised One will separate them from one another, as a shepherd divides the sheep from the goats. The sheep will be placed on the right hand, the goats on the left. “The ruler will say to those on the right, ‘Come, you blessed of my Abba God! Inherit the Kin-Dom prepared for you from the creation of the world! For I was hungry and you fed me; I was thirsty and you gave me drink. I was a stranger and you welcomed me; naked and you clothed me. I was ill and you comforted me; in prison and you came to visit me.’ Then these just will ask, ‘When did we see you hungry and feed you, or see you thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you as a stranger and invite you in, or clothe you in your nakedness? When did we see you ill or in prison and come to visit you?’ The ruler will answer them, ‘The truth is, every time you did this for the least of my sisters or brothers, you did it for me.’"

THE WEEK BEADS 3

Loving God, I am no longer my own, but yours.

Put me to what you will, place me with whom you will. Put me to doing, put me to suffering.

Let me be put to work for you or set aside for you, praised for you or criticized for you.

Let me be full, let me be empty. Let me have all things, let me have nothing.

I freely and fully surrender all things to your glory and service.

And now, O wonderful and holy God, Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer, you are mine, and I am yours. So be it.

And the covenant which I have made on earth, let it also be made in heaven. Amen.

THE CRUCIFORM BEAD

Jesus said: “All authority has been given me

both in heaven and on earth; go, therefore, and make disciples of all the nations.

Baptize them in the name of Abba God, and of the Only Begotten, and of the Holy Spirit. Teach them to carry out everything I have commanded you. And know that I am with you always, even until the end of the world!”

THE WEEK BEADS 4

Jesus prayed, saying: “Now they know that everything you, O God, have entrusted to me does indeed come from you. I entrusted to them the message you entrusted to me, and they received it.

They know that I really came from you; they believe it was you who sent me. And it’s for them that I pray—not for the world, but for these you’ve given me—for they are really yours, just as all that belongs to me is yours, and all that belongs to you is mine.

It is in them that I have been glorified. I am in the world no more, but while I am coming to you, they are still in the world.

Abba, holy God, protect those whom you have given me with your Name—the Name that you gave me—that they may be one, even as we are one.

As long as I was with them, I guarded them with your Name which you gave me.

I kept careful watch, and not one of them was lost, except for the one who was destined to be lost in fulfillment of scripture.

Now I am coming to you; I say all this while I am still in the world that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves.

THE CRUCIFORM BEAD

When the day of Pentecost arrived, they all met in one room. Suddenly they heard what sounded like a violent, rushing wind from heaven; the noise filled

the entire house in which they were sitting. Something appeared to them that seemed like tongues of fire; these separated and came to rest on the head of each one. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages as she enabled them … All were amazed and disturbed. They asked each other, “What does this mean?” … “it’s what Joel the prophet spoke of: ‘In the days to come—it is our God who speaks—I will pour out my Spirit on all humankind. Your daughters and sons will prophesy, your young people will see visions, and your elders will dream dreams. Even on the most insignificant of my people, both women and men, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. And I will display wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below: blood, fire and billowing smoke. The sun will be turned into darkness

and the moon will become blood before the coming of the great and sublime day of our God. And all who call upon the name of our God will be saved.’”

THE TRINITY BEADS

Glory be to the Source of all life, Alpha and Omega.

Glory be to the eternal Word, holy Wisdom, sacred Gospel.

Glory be to the living Presence, Spirit of Truth and Life.

THE INVITATORY BEAD

Now dismiss your servant, God,
in peace, according to your word:
For my own eyes have seen
your salvation, which you have prepared
in the sight of all the peoples,
A light to reveal you to the nations
and the glory of your people Israel.

THE CROSS

Blessed is God and blessed is God’s Kin-Dom forevermore. Amen.
